Bhagwant Mann must show magnanimity and volunteer to meet a well-meaning delegation of the Quami Insaaf Morcha  to discuss the matter of Bandi Singhs on priority.

Quami Insaaf Morcha leadership should seek a structured meeting, with a point wise agenda for the release of the Bandi Singhs with the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and with the Home Minister of India Amit Shah as well.

bandi

Each single case of the Sikh prisoners in question, who have already completed their period of sentence, must be well-defined so that each single case could be discussed with clinical precision, with its pros and cons including the administrative bottlenecks, legal hitches and the impediments proving stumbling blocks in their exceedingly delayed releases.

The Government of India and the concerned State Governments under whose jurisdiction the Bandi Singhs are being kept in prolonged illegal detentions, should also classify the category of these Bandi Singhs.

The Sikh Community has a right to know whether these Bandi Singhs are being treated as ‘Political Prisoner’ or ‘Terrorists’ or ordinary classified criminals.

The legitimate role of the Judiciary with special reference to the concerned relevant courts, that awarded the various punishments/sentences also need to be examined for the legal recourse; if not yet explored or scrutinized.

bandiI’m sure that the leadership of the Quami Insaaf Morcha must have thought through all these aspects while logically preparing their memorandum, which they may be intending to handover to Chief Minister, Punjab.

The SGPC as ‘Sikh Parliament’ should also not hesitate to undertake its sincere active role for the release of the Bandi Singhs notwithstanding rough odds, genuine difficulties of riding a bumpy terrain including opposition from certain section ‘Sikh Organization’.

In fact SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami should come forward, by shunning the inhibition and should also hang up the shyness, if any, and take the lead in consultation with the leadership of the Quami Insaaf Morcha to broach the issue with the Punjab CM.

And in turn the Punjab Chief Minister should also not take the relevance and the strength of the Quami Insaaf Morcha casually and above all dismissing the potentials of the anger of the Sikh Community could prove to be a grave mistake and a colossal misjudgment .

Failing to read the real nuance of “between the lines” would lead to a catch-22 situation in Punjab, leaving no escape route to diffuse the volatile situation.

I wish to forewarn the Punjab Chief Minister that UT administration would escape responsibility for the showdown and violence under the pretext of maintaining law & order in the UT, but the ‘Albatross’ will be around the neck of the Punjab Chief Minister and he shall be squarely blamed for his pig-headed attitude for not yielding any ground to Quami Insaaf Morcha for a reasonable dialogue.

Therefore I would suggest the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to show magnanimity and volunteer himself and immediately offer the meeting to a well-meaning delegation of the Quami Insaaf Morcha at Mohali itself and may be at the place of his choosing.
